Welcome to the last half of the season!

When you read the title I'm sure many of you thought:

"Munoz, it's been so long since you've blogged you have no idea where you're supposed to pick up! It's not the last half of the season...We haven't even started!"

Correct. The competition portion of our season has yet to start, but hour wise we are well into the last half of our season.  That thought is somewhat depressing, isn't it?  So much of what we do (and this is true for all sports) occurs out of uniform, and off the field.  We've spent over 200 hours on the parking lot, in the classroom, and in practice rooms getting our show what we now affectionately call "Bluffton Ready".  We know that this Saturday's performance will be far from our best, but we have laid out an expectation that we all want to meet.  While we strive to continue to exude greatness, we will (now weekly) have goals in our mind of where we want to be.  If you'd like to see how  we're scored, stop by the band room - the judge's sheets are blown up and posted in the hallway by my office.

With the new season comes new formats, and while Scholastic is not a new  format per sey, it will be the first year we see Scholastic being offered at invitationals.  Unfortunately that means Open Class B has gotten much smaller...on the bright side hopefully there is now more seating for our parents!

We have lots of people to thank for helping us get up and running, but PETE MOGA deserves a special shout out for coordinating the construction of what is, undoubtedly, the largest amount of props we've ever used!  Thanks to all who have helped him accomplish this endeavor!

Two items I want to mention before you go back to reading espn or taking a buzzfeed quiz on facebook:

1. Band Family Picnic - last year we had close to 250 people in attendance...what a great turn out! THIS THURSDAY at 5:30 in the parking lot (where we normally practice), it will be a great time and not only are you invited, but anyone else you can think of!  Now that we've started friends and family night on Thursdays some of you will be used to this format, but this Thursday we'll go into greater detail about what our show is about, what and how we learn a marching band show, and other great details that will make Saturday performances that much more special.  This is a potluck dinner, so bring your own service ware and a blanket or chairs as well as your food assignment.  More info can be found on the front page of the website or by CLICKING HERE.

2. ITINERARY FOR BLUFFTON - Is posted on the front page of the website.  Be sure to check it out!  We're staying close to home for many competitions...we hope to pack the stands with blue and gold!  A competition isn't nearly as special for the kids when they don't hear their parents going crazy for them in the stands.  Let's not let them down!

That's all for this week!  I'll see most of you Thursday, and ALL of you Saturday :)
