Director's blog: Disney World Edition!

Oh Happy Day!

As many of you know I am quite the Disney enthusiast.  In fact 2012 marked the first calendar year I haven't gone to WDW since 1999!  So I seem to be especially excited for this one!  There are no events going on this week however a few things to remind you of:

SPRING BREAK CLEANING:  Our AMAZING (understatement) custodial staff will be waxing the band area over spring break rather than summer to help them ease the load during the summer.  This works out great for us: we don't have to schedule around the floors now for the summer!

Because of this a few things:

NO access to band area after we depart for Disney World until Saturday when we return (if you forgot something...sorry...)

YOU MUST have your instrument locker COMPLETELY (instrument included) cleared out so we can clean and air out the lockers (we will do this on Thursday).

Disney World Items:

  • Only one suitcase per person
  • Carry on bag should be about the size of a book bag (keep in mind you have to fit souvenirs on the bus too for the return trip
  • Bring blankets, pillows, snacks, etc for the trip down and back
  • Report to the High School between 9:40 - 10:00 - but please be sure to arrive no later than 10:00 am to ensure a prompt departure
  • Wait to load the bus until Mr. Munoz gives the all clear
  • DO NOT arrive before 9:00 am - NO ONE WILL BE HERE! I am purposely not arriving until 9:00 am as there is NO NEED to be here any earlier than that!!! Don't be busting down the doors...I know we're all excited but you'll just be sitting around anyways!

That's it for this week:  be sure to follow @eastnoblebands on twitter for pictures and updates as we go on the trip.  We'll have plenty to share with you!

Below are some shots of Disney Trips Mr. Munoz has taken in the past with family and with school groups

See you in WARM Florida!

State Finals!

3/19/2013

After a long week last week our Percussion is headed to state finals for the 14th consecutive year in a row!  Obviously this is a special trip as it is our first as a promoted group to open class.  A quick history lesson....

There was a time when East Noble Winter Percussion was in Open Class by choice - this was before the advent of AA and to be quite honest a much more simple time in the world of percussion. As the activity has EXPLODED in the last five years Open class has become the bench mark for the "elite" as opposed to the "established".  This is now Class A - class A is for groups that have been established for years and are at the basic level - we however have now taken the jump.  So if you see trophies lying around that say "open class" it is true - we were at one time in open class, but again, the activity has changed and flourished so much the open class we once competed in is not the same as it is today.

The Winter Percussion are currently ranked 6th in the state. should we finish at the spot it will be the highest finish since 2008.  Should we move up just one spot it will be the highest finish in 13 years!! Regardless the students have had a phenomenal season and we're looking forward to one last fantastic show.

Speaking of phenomenal shows: our WINTER GUARD finished their season last Saturday at Mooresville HS and earned a Silver rating!  As the field of IHSCGA becomes more competitive we still stand out as an established group that consistently puts out excellence.  Great job girls!

Here are the upcoming events for the week:

Tuesday - WP rehearsal 6:00 - 9:00

Wednesday - Jazz Band Auditions - after school
                         WP rehearsal 6:00 - 9:00

Thursday -

Friday - WP Rehearsal 3:15 - 5:00
WP COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE 6:00 PM MAIN GYM

Saturday - WP State FINALS @ Ben Davis

------
Monday  March 25th - Disney Pre-trip meeting (mandatory for all travelers). 7:00 pm in large band room

If you find spring let me know....

Good Morning!  Hopefully you survived the "springing forward" of your clocks.  I have to quote a great joke by Seth Myers from Saturday Night Live because it rings so true with me:

"Today starts daylights savings time - so remember that the clock on your kitchen stove is now an hour behind for 6 months"

A BIG week for our competing groups this weekend!  Our WINTER GUARD is gearing up for the finale of their season.  They'll be at Mooresville this weekend at the IHSCGA Divisional Finals while our WINTER PERCUSSION will travel to Avon to compete in the IPA State Qualifying competition.  We also have a rescheduled Band Booster meeting this week caused by the snow from last Tuesday night.   Below is the schedule for the week!

Monday - Winter Guard 5:00 - 8:00 pm

Tuesday - Winter Guard 5:00 - 8:00 pm
Booster Meeting - 7:00 pm in the small band room
                    Winter Percussion 6:00 - 9:00 pm

Wednesday - Winter Percussion 6:00 - 9:00

Thursday - Winter Guard 5:00 - 8:00 pm

WP at Avon for State Prelims

Hopefully I'll see you at either of the competitions Saturday!

Happy Monday!

If you're like me you're really angry at mother nature for giving us yet ANOTHER round of snow later this week.  The nice news is DST begins Saturday so we'll start to see more sunshine in the evening! A realitively calm week of events compared to last, however there is a change in the WP schedule for the rest of the season so please take note!

Monday - WG rehearsal 5:00 - 8:00

Tuesday - WG rehearsal 5:00 - 8:00
                    WP rehearsal 6:00 - 9:00

Wednesday - WP rehearsal 6:00 - 9:00

Thursday - WG rehearsal 5:00 - 8:00

Friday - WP rehearsal 3:15 - 5:30 (possibly extended if weather cancels a rehearsal)

Saturday - WP competition @ Warsaw

Thanks to our HOARD of parents who came out on Saturday to see our percussion get promoted - a very cool ceremony ! below is a picture of the group after awards!
